Nirthane

Male
Human Wizard and Explorer of Renown
Nirthane
was born in AR 840 in the Voldairan capital of Saeris, the eldest son of a wealthy
merchant. Though little is known of his early years, Nirthane is known to
have studied magecraft under the tutelage of the legendary wizard Talaster
of the Carnelian Eye.
At
some point in his early career Nirthane befriended the young rogue Harenval
and the elf ranger Ischara, and the three founded the adventuring band known as the Seekers.
The Seekers specialized in exploring ancient ruins, sacking dungeons, and
uncovering lost
realms. They were also expert tomb-robbers, and soon became famous for
their daring exploits. They also grew quite wealthy.
Nirthane
was briefly married to the elf ranger Ischara, who bore him three half-elf
children: a daughter, Imressa, and twin sons, Baernin and Kalorel.
Some
30 years ago (around AR 870), the Seekers came into conflict with the
fanatical followers of Borem of the Lake of Boiling Mud—an
obscure deity worshipped in ancient Acheras and Lemyria. Though the
details of the conflict are unknown, several of the Seekers were killed,
including Ischara, and at least one of the members was driven irrevocably insane. Soon after,
Harenval and Nirthane parted ways and the Seekers were no more.
A
few years after the demise of the Seekers, the 2nd Trade War (AR 874-895)
erupted between Voldaire and Karvejia. Nirthane, using his wealth and
influence with the Voldairan court, was given the rank of Lord Commander
and placed in command of the 12th Royal Fleet—a
fleet of 14 warships. Though severely wounded at the Battle of Wight's
Island (AR 893), Nirthane earned a reputation as a expert tactician and
cruel adversary in his 21 years of service.
After
the war, Nirthane assembled another adventuring band, the Stormdrakes,
and embarked upon a second adventuring career. His caravel, the Pernicious,
is crewed by many warforged warriors who were under his command during the
war.
