Sage and former adventurer

The venerable Harenval was once a famous adventurer-sage whose exploits are still retold in taphouses and around campfires throughout the Emerald Isles. A consummate explorer and historian, Harenval traveled far and wide, exploring as far as the dark jungles of Jaarluna and the far wastes of eastern Azhendor. Along with his adventuring comrades—known as the Seekers—Harenval visited the sites of many ruined and lost kingdoms. 

More importantly, he survived the horrors found there and lived to write about them. After retiring to Fallcrest some 30 years ago, Harenval has penned over a dozen books based on his encounters and observations—including encyclopedias, histories, and travel guides.

Harenval now lives a hermetic life, and resides in a small tower in the town of Fallcrest. There he continues to write his memoirs, raise spiretop drakes, and share knowledge with those he deems worthy. He is an accomplished historian and linguist, and has a keen interest in arcane and religious lore.

However, Harenval is nearing his 90th birthday and his body and mind have paid the toll for his adventurous past. He is slow and ponderous in his movement, and he walks with a pronounced limp. And though his mind usually remains sharp, sometimes his memories become clouded by mild senility. He tends to tire easily, and often passes into sleep in the midst of conversation. Still, he remains cheerful and more than a little mercurial in attitude and temperament.

Keeping him company—aside from the dozen or so cat-like spiretop drakes that nest in the upper reaches of his tower—is his overly protective animal companion, a surly old badger named Digger.
