Humans

Though they are relative newcomers, human civilization has dominated Erythea for the past 12,000 years. Humans are perseverant and incredibly adaptable.

Major human sub-races include:

Aziiri - Descendants of the great Aziiryan Empire. These tall (males average 6' 3") amber-skinned folk were once great inventors, explorers, and artists. Though their "empire" is but a glimmer of its former glory, many Aziiri have a strong sense of historical and national pride that borders on arrogance. Aziiri tend to be voracious seekers of knowledge, and continually strive for self-improvement. Most Aziiri have dark curly hair and raven-black eyes. Though extraordinarily rare, Aziiri born with deep violet eyes are said to be descended from the line of Ahzrobades, the first and greatest emperor of the Aziiryan Empire.

They tend to live in small communities formed of clans of extended families, and are very competitive and territorial. Most Emerish proudly claim that the blood of the enigmatic Green Folk runs in their veins, and many still pay lip service to the nature spirits of the Old Faith. Though most Emerish have brown or auburn hair and brown or hazel eyes, a few of them (notably the folk of the highlands of Arthedain) sport bright red hair. These red-haired individuals are said to be "Kissed by Avandra", the goddess of luck.

Hraals and Greylanders - These proud warlike folk originally hail from the frigid land of Hraalvar, though many have now settled in Cedara and the Grey Isles (the cruel folk of the Grey Isles call themselves Greylanders). Hraals are fair-skinned, and most have blond, platinum, or red hair and blue or grey eyes. Male Hraals usually sport a full beard, braided in the dwarven fashion, and wear their hair very long. Hraals are expert seafarers and cruel warriors. Their tradition of raiding and plundering other lands has earned them the fear and hatred of most of the civlized realms.

Karvejians - These slightly built (males average 5'7"), olive-skinned folk are recognized by their jet black hair and pale green eyes. Karvejians are expert merchants, rogues, and liars. Full of cunning and bravado, Karvejians place personal honor in high esteem. Many Karvejians are easy offended and rarely back down from a fight. Duels and blood-feuds are common.

Lyrreans - These are the descendants of the original barbarian kings who mixed with the Aziiri invaders. These proud folk are tall, fair of skin, and broad-shouldered (males average 5' 10"), with a wide range of hair and eye color. Most males sport a full beards, but keep their hair trimmed short. Most Lyrreans prefer to live off the land, and many are skilled hunters, miners, and craftsmen.  Indeed, some of the finest armorers and weaponsmiths can be found in the backwater towns and villages of Lyrrea. The Kingdom of Voldaire is the only significant Lyrrean realm, and is surprisingly urbane and sophisticated.

Zhevreni - The Zhevreni are wanderers and outcasts. Originally of Karvejian descent, these folk were expelled by the merchant-princes some four centuries ago for some "unspeakable crime". They have since remained a nomadic and often persecuted people, travelling by caravan or river-barge from settlement to settlement working as merchants, performers, and spies. Many will not work if they can steal, nor will they deal squarely when they can cheat. Amongst themselves, however (and those whom they trust), they are always honest. Zhevreni resemble Karvejians except they tend to have curly hair and their eyes are a deep shade of emerald green.
